We are looking for an Controller for our Commercial team at our Head Office located in downtown Vancouver. Reporting directly to the Director, Accounting & Operations, the Controller position is responsible for overseeing the financial operations for the property management business ensuring that all information is accurate, timely and meeting all applicable deadlines.  If you are positive, enjoy working with numbers, and have strong leadership skills, we want to hear from you!


  • Overseeing all aspects of the accounting, finance, and reporting functions including the delivery of monthly, quarterly, and year-end accounting close procedures;
  • Establishing processes and methods of working to ensure financial reports are consistent and meet desired quality standards;
  • Reviewing and approving financials as an internal quality control making sure they are prepared in accordance with relevant accounting principles;
  • Reviewing and approving processes and transactions making sure they are compliant with RECBC trust rules;
  • Developing processes and procedures for tenant recoveries;
  • Using market knowledge and experience establishing budgets and rates with Property Managers;
  • Preparing and reviewing internal and external financial reports with the management team; Delegating the maximum amount of work, with trust and accountability, and optimizing the engagement and development of employees; and
  • Ensuring that all staff respect Peterson’s policies and that supervisors receive training to implement them effectively and consistently.


  • Completion of a Bachelor’s degree (Business in Accounting);
  • Accounting designation;
  • In depth knowledge of accounting standards, practices, and real estate trends;
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office particularly with Excel; and
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience:
    • Overseeing the financials of a portfolio of accounts within the property management real estate industry;
    • Developing, reviewing, and designing financial processes, procedures, and policies;
    • Monitoring staff progress, providing on-going support and guidance when needed to resolve problems or questions;
    • Supervising and mentoring junior staff members on the preferred methods and processes;
    • Demonstrating an analytical and investigative mindset by proactively identifying issues and suggesting solutions or alternatives;
    • Practicing innovative problem solving to resolve inefficiencies and improving methods of working;
    • Efficient and effective time management and project management, demonstrating ability to meet deadlines while producing quality and accurate work; and
    • Developing positive and professional relationships with a variety of people while practicing excellent verbal and written communication skills.
