101 West Hastings Street - Woodward's
The Landmark Woodward's Department Store has been transformed into a socially, environmentally and economically sustainable development that will play a significant role in the revitalization of the Downtown Eastside. This 1,160,862 square foot development is comprised of four buildings of market housing, non-market housing, SFU School for the Contemporary Arts, retail space, office space, day care, and an outdoor plaza with gardens and galleria. Designed by Henriquez Partners, this development was able to achieve LEED Silver certification and features Stan Douglas public art.
The Woodward’s building is a Vancouver landmark, and is just two blocks outside of the downtown core. After years of neglect and uncertainty over its future, the Woodward's redevelopment was awarded to Westbank and Peterson. Covering almost an entire city block, this site, once a major department store, serves as the city's historic an social heart. Within walking distance of Downtown, Gastown, Chinatown and arts and entertainment.
