As Peterson’s development portfolio continues to grow, we are excited to expand our team and add an experienced Vice President, Construction. Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Development, this position will be responsible for reliable oversight and management of all construction activity across Peterson’s development projects to successfully deliver a portfolio of residential, commercial, and master-planned developments. The position exists to ensure all projects are delivered in a timely and profitable manner with a high level of safety and quality.

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Development, this position will be responsible for reliable oversight and management of all construction activity across Peterson’s development projects to successfully deliver a portfolio of residential, commercial, and master-planned developments. The position exists to ensure all projects are delivered in a timely and profitable manner with a high level of safety and quality.

The ideal candidate will have 15+ years of diverse construction project management experience with a strong record of success managing multiple, complex development projects and key stakeholder relationships, simultaneously. This role is best suited for someone who has an analytical and investigative mindset and suggests creative yet practical solutions while striving with integrity to complete tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Developing operating frameworks, policies, processes, and reporting requirements for construction and project delivery to achieve program goals;
  • Overseeing all bid packaged and processes – reviewing pricing, tendering consultant/construction contracts;
  • Budget and scheduling development/management to ensure the best value and efficiency;
  • Evaluating project plans and assisting in drawing specification preparation, design coordination, and cost estimates;
  • Managing and facilitating general construction activities of the General Contractor;
  • Monitoring and reviewing contractor’s work to ensure the project is delivered with project quality standards and in alignment with the design, budget and schedule on-time and on-budget;
  • Identifying project performance gaps from a technical perspective and revising plans, priorities and funding requirements as conditions change and negotiating resolutions;
  • Updating ownership and other key stakeholders;
  • Managing and administering all change orders and managing and tracking project permit applications;
  • Processing draw requests and other on-site activities;
  • Attending all owner and contractor meetings and managing the project close out; and
  • Completing testing and commissioning, warranties, deficiencies rectification, and obtaining operations and maintenance documentation.

 Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience with proven ability to deliver successful and complex large-scale projects on-time and within budget;
  • Completion of Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (Engineering, Urban Planning or Construction);
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Office including MS Excel and Word;
  • Knowledge of BC Building Code and best practices for construction management;
  • Experience with tender process, budgets, estimates, construction schedules, progress and monthly reports and managing all subcontractors and suppliers to ensure quality control, cost control and maintaining schedules;
  • Developing positive and professional relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders while practicing excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Strong organization skills with superior attention to detail; and
  • Practicing innovative problem solving to resolve inefficiencies and improving methods of working.
