The position is responsible for assisting with all aspects of project delivery with a primary focus on pre-construction and specific project execution oversight for a variety of commercial and multi-residential projects. The position will also provide oversight and support on major landlord’s work for the commercial properties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing the overall construction process for a select number of the Company’s projects;
  • Overseeing and contributing to the tender/procurement process for related projects;
  • Leading the maintenance of project and contract documents and reviewing them for completeness, accuracy and quality;
  • Managing and maintaining relationships with general contractors, construction managers, consultants, and subtrades;
  • Creating and maintaining construction budgets from design development through to final working drawings;
  • Participating in cross departmental coordination on behalf of the construction team (i.e. Sales and Marketing, Development and Property Management/Leasing);
  • Leading consultant and project meetings from the design development stages through to working drawings, providing input on constructability and value engineering;
  • Developing and maintaining construction project schedules with the use of software tools;
  • Auditing project schedules during construction to ensure projects remain on target;
  • Identifying potential risks and developing mitigation strategies to minimize project delays and cost overruns;
  • Reviewing and managing project change orders and design changes during construction;
  • Staying current regarding industry trends and best practices, implementing innovation techniques and processes to improve efficiency and reduce cost of construction;
  • Providing construction cashflow assessments for all related projects where necessary;
  • Leading the coordination and execution of all on-site and off-site utilities work with relevant consultants, third party utility companies and municipality;
  • Overseeing all construction activities and management of Tenant Improvement projects over $500K for the Company’s income producing properties;
  • Overseeing necessary municipal permit applications as they relate to construction and support the development permit process as needed;
  • Managing, reviewing and approving monthly invoicing as it relates to construction managers, general contracts, and subtrades;
  • Working with the construction team to create and maintain a database of current construction rates and industry trends; and
  • Respectfully and capably representing the best interests of Peterson in all internal and external dealings.

What You Bring

Academic, technical, and professional competence

  • Post-secondary education in Building Technology, Construction Management, Engineering or similar field;
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Project, Blue Beam and other construction related software is an asset;
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel

Work Experience and Job Skills

  • A demonstrated track record with 4+ years’ in a related role:
  • Experience as a Project Coordinator, Estimator, Project Manager, or in a construction related field with expertise in pre-construction;
  • Demonstrated track record of dealing successfully with on-site trades and general contractors;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to develop positive relationships with a network of key stakeholders including contractors, consultants, engineers and subtrades, to achieve business objectives;
  • Superior project management skills – able to prioritize, plan and organize effectively

Salary Range: $100,000 to $130,000
