Peterson has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Manager, Construction to join a growing team. Reporting to the VP, Construction, the role is responsible for leading the construction project management and site teams to plan and execute projects ranging from residential, commercial and master-planned developments.
The ideal person is highly organized and an effective communicator who works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders. The successful candidate has strong technical acumen and the ability to coordinate construction projects from inception, completion to post-construction warranties, while managing budgets, project plans, schedules, quality control standards and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting the Vice President, Construction with project budgets, tendering and take-offs;
- Working with design consultants, engineers and general contractors for the successful execution of construction work;
- Reviewing and drafting plans and specifications to establish constructability issues;
- Setting expectations, providing regular progress updates, and promptly addressing escalated issues;
- Clearing all City permitting, inspections and LC requirements; and
- Attending project meetings and visiting construction sites as needed to conduct regular inspections, confirming compliance with project plans, specifications and industry standards, while adhering to all Health and Safety requirements.
- Reviewing general contractor Request for Proposal packages, proposal review and selection process;
- Reviewing and monitoring hard costs, change management process, GMP price estimates and cash allowances to ensure the project is delivered with project quality standards and in alignment with the design, budget, and schedule of the project scope;
- Identifying value engineering options and innovative solutions;
- Identifying project performance gaps from a technical perspective and revising plans, and priorities as to account for changing conditions and negotiation resolutions;
- Reviewing, analyzing and managing contract change orders and agreement amendments, escalating to the Vice President, Construction if required; and
- Closing out projects in a timely manner, successfully completing testing and commissioning, warranties, deficiencies rectification and obtaining operations and maintenance documentation for turnover.
What You Bring
- 10+ years’ experience in a construction management related field with a proven track record of managing large-scale construction projects successfully, including residential, commercial and large-scale projects;
- Post-secondary education in Building Technology, Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture or similar field;
- Strong understanding of design completion process, construction procurement strategies, and construction management.
- Ability to develop a positive relationship with a network of key stakeholders including contractors, consultants, engineers and subtrades, to achieve business objectives; Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Demonstrating an analytical and investigative mindset by proactively identifying issues, while offering suggesting practical and innovative solutions or alternatives; and
- Superior project management skills – able to prioritize, plan and organize effectively.
Salary Range: $165,000 – $190,000 per annum
